Biography

“Music is worth
all the philosophies
of the world”

Roberto Palermo is an accordionist who began his musical journey at the age of eleven at the Centro Didattico Musicale Italiano in San Vincenzo La Costa (Cosenza). Under the guidance of Maestro Lucio Cortese, he received a classical training and distinguished himself in national and international accordion competitions, achieving excellent results.

Over time, his passion for jazz took over, leading him to collaborate with the Imperfect Jazz Quartet and pursue specialized studies at the “Voglia d’Arte” Institute in Roseto degli Abruzzi in 2002, under the mentorship of Maestro Renzo Ruggieri. This marked a period of intense critical study, focusing on the accordion’s role as an artistic instrument and exploring its expressive potential.

Roberto further enriched his musical education by participating in prestigious masterclasses with some of the greatest accordionists on the international scene, including Richard Galliano (at Teatro Goldoni in Livorno in 2011 and in Asker, Norway, in 2016), Frédéric Deschamps, and Renzo Ruggieri.

Although classical training remains the foundation of his musical education, Roberto’s versatility and eclecticism have led him to embrace a wide range of genres and styles. He views the accordion not only as a traditional or classical instrument but as one capable of encompassing the entire spectrum of musical expression. Through his performances, he promotes new compositions and delves into the experimental aspects of contemporary music.

Currently based in Norway, Roberto travels across Europe to perform. Among his most recent concerts are those in Riga and Tallinn, showcasing his dedication to establishing the accordion as a modern and multifaceted instrument.

Today, Roberto Palermo is recognized as a versatile and refined performer, seamlessly blending tradition and innovation, and pushing the boundaries of what the accordion can achieve.
